Aliens: Colonial Marines is a squad-based first-person shooter in which the player controls four Colonial Marines, each with a different personality and primary weapon. Each player character can carry additional weapons including a flamethrower, pulse rifle, smartgun, pistol, RPG, and many types of grenades. The player controls one marine at a time, issues orders to the others using context-sensitive commands, and may switch between characters at any time. A new low for a once respected franchise. It’s all there. The game basically put itself on a pedestal as the sequel to Aliens, when in reality only 3 missions are dedicated to aliens and the rest have you facing Weyland-Yutani Mercs. Did I mention there are only 7 levels? Well, okay, I could forgive that if the rest of it would be amazing.
Whats up with the multiplayer matchmaking lobby taking so long?
Rebellion Developments has identified and confirmed an issue with the matchmaking system in the PC demo of Aliens vs Predator. It is not known yet whether or not a fix will be provided. I’ve been waiting 30 minutes
the dry months since pre-Christmas releases, Aliens: Colonial Marines is not for you. Unfortunately, despite the intrigue of this new playing style, the matchmaking and levelling This article first appeared in Issue 1,
Like many, I too was a fan of the original Alien films while growing up. The dark and twisted sci-fi horror feeling that the film produced went on to inspire many top hitter titles today such as the Dead Space and Halo franchises. Sadly that flame nearly died the moment I started playing. As such, they both have their own leveling up system as well as unlocks and every match has two sets of rounds where you play as both.
This is a pretty unique and clever way of doing it as each round will tally up the scores. So, say Marines got 40 kills and Xenos got 12, that round goes to Marines.

The game debuted last month to reasonably positive reviews, but has been accused of lacking content. Really, this feature should have been in the game from the start. It should also be noted that the game has two pieces of planned downloadable content. A lot of money to bet on a game being good. This is the problem of the practice of pre-ordering.
It is important, however, to point out that it is not the only game to have issues. Pre-order incentives are a well known tactic in video game marketing. These are often pieces of menial content such as bonus weapons or skins. What is most heart-breaking is that this content has either been carved from the actual game, or is sucking up time that could be spent giving extra polish to other assets.
When you remember that the industry rushes to declare that prices decrease almost immediately after launch, it begs the question why you would spend more money on something without foresight, when it is possible to wait and see if the game is functional, at a cheaper price. Pre-ordering makes sense only for products that might legitimately not be available around their launch.
There is no such risk with modern AAA games, particularly in the ever-increasing move to digital distribution.

Sign In. Aliens: Colonial Marines Video Game. Hide Spoilers. A letdown NicolasHunter 11 February Since I’m currently based in Australia, I was fortunate enough to play this game before its official release date over in The U. This isn’t the incompetently thrown together hack job Rebellion’s alien vs predator was, but this is simply a toned down shell of a game that had the potential to be superior in comparison to other games based off the alien franchise.
Sega licensed the Aliens franchise awhile back and Gearbox eventually ended up with the task of developing what would be considered a sequel of sorts to Aliens and Alien 3 but set far before Alien Resurrection. The game breaks down into two sections, the campaign that can be played co-op or solo and then your versus section where all the multiplayer mayhem is centered. You can play this game two ways in the campaign, alone or with some friends.
Either way works, but honestly it might be more fun with some friends and the difficulty kicked up a notch.
Borderlands 2 was updated introducing bugs, performance and matchmaking issues while also forcefully attempting to get players to buy Borderlands 3. Well, maybe that comes from how they botched Aliens: Colonial Marines and killed off.
I have fond memories of Aliens vs Predator 2 multiplayer, in which I most often played the part of a terrified marine, a coward really who should never have signed up, abandoning my team and shooting wildly at shadows whenever anything resembling an alien jittered across the screen. Four marines must escape, booking it through a level while player-controlled aliens, some with special abilities, attempt to eviscerate them. A trailer skitters in the darkness below. I like Aliens although a great deal less than Alien and I like Left 4 Dead, so is this the game mode that finally makes me excited about Colonial Marines?

Aliens: Colonial Marines
I sat in a room with my fellow GamingExcellence Staffers at E3 as Randy Pitchford passionately described his love for the Aliens franchise and how he was going to give back to Aliens for giving him so much inspiration in his game design. I watched the very impressive demo that featured impressive alien AI, excellent graphical presentation and intense action.
I even played this game at E3 and came away impressed with the multiplayer side of things too. Nothing I saw in those two demos is in the final product; none of it. ACM is worse than simply a mediocre shooter. Lots of rumours are flying around the industry about whether Gearbox is responsible, or whether TimeGate was the outsourced studio to blame, or even Sega for pushing a game out the door before it was ready in order to finally see a return on their seven year development investment.

I am just going to come right out and say that this game is plain awful! I am a huge fan of the Alien movies, and words cannot express the joy that I felt when I found out that they were making this game. The best I feel is the old Aliens Vs Predator computer game. I used to play that game all of the time, and when I first heard about Aliens: Colonial Marines I envisioned the game would be similar. Boy was I wrong. I reserved this game back in September at a local Gamestop, and pre-ordered the collectors edition that included special weapons, characters, and a cool statue.
When the game released back in February I was at the Gamestop when it opened to pick it up. I went home and immediately began to play it, and after thirty minutes I debated on taking the game back. The game is riddled with issues and just poorly done. As a matter of fact, I only played the game for about a week and stopped playing it all together. To me it was that bad.
Many of the problems come from the gameplay itself. The AI in this is just horrid.

New to Shacknews? Signup for a Free Account. In a double-whammy of Aliens vs. Predator news, developer Rebellion has apologised for matchmaking problems suffered by players of the PC demo while a new gameplay trailer explores a terrifying nightclub from the perspective of one poor Colonial Marine. A multiplayer demo is out now for all three platforms. I could say a lot of things about it, but I’ll focus on one main point: who makes a game relying on a dark moody atmosphere and deep rich shadowy environments in the age of the LCD monitor?
What were they thinking?! My LCD is doing just fine with it – maybe it’s just that you need a slightly better monitor? It was rhetorical because it’s a bad idea, due to the inherent problems in the panels everyone has all the way from bargain basement to the It’s the technology. Just because you can’t see the massive black crush or, alternatively, the backlight bleed and washed out black levels doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
My LCD can handle it just fine, and putting it on a CRT improved the blacks and helped hide the embarrassingly antiquated graphics. This game looks like it’s been on the shelf for five years, and in that time the animators have been having a nap. There were dark games made for years, where was the problem there?

In essence, playing a round of Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer is a completely jacked up MP matchmaking system since day 1 that Sega.
February 21st, Considering that we know Gearbox is capable of making good games, with the most obvious examples being the Borderlands series, and with some of their older Brothers in Arms games, the fact that Aliens: Colonial Marines went so wrong is sort of baffling. There is nothing in the game that looks like this…. But other things are far more noticeable, like the awful A. When the path-finding for friendly A. Is the enemy hidden behind pesky cover?
